This wild and mountainous region has several provinces, including Oudomxay. Dotted with dense biodiverse rainforests, towering mountain ranges, serpentine river valleys, wide fields, beautiful waterfalls and exhilarating caves, its natural landscape makes it one of the last frontiers of true adventure travel. The land is soaked in culture and heritage, from hundred-year-old stupas, mystical temples, skilled handicraft and artisan, colorful festivals, and it serves as the ancestral home to a tapestry of peoples and tribes, each with their own customs, traditions, lifestyles, and history.

Dry Season

(October – February)
Cooler temperatures and longer periods of sunshine. Go on cultural visits, outdoor activities like cycling, and heart-pumping adventures without barely breaking a sweat!

Highs at 27-28°C (81- 82°F).
Lows at 14-15°C (57-59 °F).

Green Season

(March – September)
Hottest months are March and April. Stay fresh in the pool or at a waterfall, roam the forest under the cool shade of its canopy. Peak time for tropical rain showers is August and September, when the landscape comes alive in luscious green.

around 32°C (90°F).

Getting There

BY TRAIN

BY TRAIN

Laos-China Railway (LCR) high speed train to Muang Xai (Oudomxay province) from Vang Vieng, or from main gateway cities of Vientiane capital (approximately 3 hours) and Luang Prabang (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes). The distance between the train station to Nam Kat Yorla Pa is 21km – or just 30 minutes’ drive. A comfortable, convenient, and popular option.

BY ROAD

BY ROAD

Self-driving or private car transfer from Luang Prabang directly to the resort through scenic rural landscape. A distance of 202km – or approximately 5 hours’ drive. A perfect option if it’s not just about the destination, but also the journey.

BY PLANE

BY PLANE

The Oudomxay Airport in Muang Xai is only 17km away from the resort – or just a mere 25 minutes’ drive. Two commercial airlines – Lao Skyway and Lao Airlines, fly 3 times per week to and from Vientiane capital. With the duration of the flights being 55 minutes, it’s the faster option.

Heart Of The North

Ideally located in the heart of Northern Laos, the remote sanctuary exudes preserved charm and tranquility, but offers a wealth of experiences in nature and culture. Nam Kat Yorla Pa is also a hub giving travelers access to a treasure trove of other places to discover or further connect to.

LUANG PRABANG

By high speed train (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes), or by car (approximately 5 hours). Ancient capital. Heart of Buddhism in the region. UNESCO World Heritage town. Remarkably rich architectural and artistic heritage.

NONG KHIAW

By car (approximately 2 hours). Picturesque town on the banks of the Nam Ou River, surrounded by towering limestone mountains. Breathtaking viewpoints. Ecotourism activities. Limestone caves that served as air raid shelters during the Second Indochina War.

PAKBENG

By car (approximately 3 hours), or by high speed train to Luang Prabang and then by boat from Luang Prabang (approximately 5 hours 30 minutes). Small rustic town along the Mekong River. Popular riverine pit stop connecting Luang Prabang and Huay Xai (Thai border).

DIEN BIEN PHU

By car (approximately 3 hours 30 minutes). At the Vietnam border. Important historical destination. Former cradle of resistance to French colonial rule.

BOTEN

By high speed train (approximately 1 hour), or by car (approximately 2 hours). At the China border, opposite the Chinese town of Mohan, Yunnan. Northernmost town in Laos on the Laos-China Railway, connected to the Chinese rail system at Mohan via the Yuxi-Mohan Railway.

HUAY XAI

By car (approximately 5 hours). At the Thai border. Opposite Chiang Khong, Thailand, accessible via the fourth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River. Convenience of transportation, including a domestic airport and waterways. Fort Carnot, ancient French fort ruins.

MUANG LA

By car (approximately 1 hour). Sleepy farming village. Rolling hills. Forests. Natural springs. Ethnic tribes. Epitome of rural life in Northern Laos.
